CSX: It is a giant of modern railroading, stretching 20,000-route miles across 23 states in the U. S., and two Canadian provinces. With its familiar and attractive blue and yellow diesels, of which it rosters nearly 4,000 units, CSX typically operates 1,000+ trains a day operated, hauls five million carloads of freight a year, owns 60,000 freight cars, and generates corporate revenues of $15 billion a year.

On a route system that extends from Maine to Miami, from Michigan to Louisiana, and from Washington, D.C., to St. Louis, CSX flourishes due to its diverse traffic base, which includes hauling intermodal traffic, chemicals, autos and automotive parts, coal, agricultural products, and paper.

No small part of CSX’s appeal to railroad enthusiasts is also thanks to its extraordinary family tree, which includes the likes of Baltimore & Ohio, Chesapeake & Ohio, Seaboard Coast Line, Louisville & Nashville, Clinchfield, and a large portion of Conrail (we’ll explore CSX’s hall-of-fame predecessors in a future DTL article).

Train Simulator Classic offers you the opportunity to climb aboard and experience contemporary North American railroading on a variety of routes which re-create CSX operations.

Four Train Simulator Classic routes feature CSX operations and include CSX equipment: The popular Miami - West Palm Beach route takes you to sunny Florida to haul manifest tonnage and stone along a busy line of Seaboard Air Line heritage; the acclaimed CSX Hanover Subdivision: Hanover – Hagerstown route brings to life scenic and heavy-haul railroading across the historic Blue Ridge in Pennsylvania and Maryland; and two routes - NEC: New York-New Haven and Hudson Line: New York – Croton-Harmon – will put you to work handling not only CSX tonnage but bustling passenger and commuter operations around “the Big Apple.”

With DLC and scenario packs, you can also enjoy authentic CSX operations on additional routes such as the Norfolk Southern Coal District, which CSX shares with Norfolk Southern, and The Racetrack: Aurora – Chicago, which regularly hosts CSX power and CVX-BNSF run-through trains.

A wealth of diverse and realistic CSX locomotives and equipment are available for Train Simulator Classic. CSX DLC includes the CSX SD45-2 Loco Add-On which features the massive EMD diesel in no less than seven CSX and predecessor liveries and also delivers a variety of CSX freight equipment. Two available DLC packs bring CSX’s biggest power – the GE AC6000CW and EMD SD80MAC - to Train Simulator Classic. The CSX NRE 3GS-21B 'Genset' DLC will put you at the controls of one of CSX’s most unusual locomotives, and additional packs or marketplace products also feature CSX locomotives including the GE C30-7 and the EMD GP40-2, SD50, and SD70MAC.

Train Simulator Classic Scenario Packs are an ideal way to extend and enhance your enjoyment of routes and locomotives and the packs feature realistic railroading experiences. Ten scenario packs which feature or include CSX operations are available and will put you at the throttle of CSX action from New York to Miami and from the rugged Allegheny and Appalachian Mountains to America’s bustling railroad capital of Chicago!

CSX is a giant of modern North American railroading, stretching 20,000-route miles across 23 states in the U. S., and two Canadian provinces – and you can bring CSX to life with a variety of extraordinary Train Simulator Classic routes and DLC! On the popular Miami - West Palm Beach Route, a duo of CSX General Electric Dash 8-40CW diesels (as are included with the route) tote a heavy stone train along the line’s fast-paced double-track right-of-way.

Among the CSX routes available for Train Simulator Classic is the richly detailed CSX Hanover Subdivision route which stretches across the historic Blue Ridge in Maryland and Pennsylvania. Near Hagerstown, Maryland, one of CSX’s unique SD40-3 remanufactured diesels leads an eastbound freight. The SD40-3 is one of four locomotive types included with the route.

Two Train Simulator Classic routes – NEC: New York-New Haven and Hudson Line: New York – Croton-Harmon – put you to work handling CSX freights amid the bustle of the “Big Apple.” On famed Hell Gate Bridge, a pair of distinctive CSX NRE 3GS-21B 'Genset' diesels (available as DLC) have a transfer run in tow (above) on the NEC: New York – New Haven route, while a set of CSX SD40-2s work on freight-only trackage included on the Hudson Line: New York – Croton-Harmon route (below).

With DLC and scenario packs, you can also enjoy authentic CSX operations on additional routes such as the Norfolk Southern Coal District, which CSX shares with Norfolk Southern, and The Racetrack: Aurora – Chicago, which regularly hosts CSX power and CSX-BNSF run-through trains. At Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, CSX big power – GE AC6000CWs and EMD SD80MACs – team up to move coal (above), while on the snowy Chicago Racetrack, CSX and BNSF power combine to power a CSX-BNSF run-through freight (below).

A variety of diverse and realistic CSX locomotives and equipment are available for Train Simulator Classic. CSX DLC includes the CSX SD45-2 Loco Add-On which features the massive EMD diesel in no less than seven CSX and predecessor liveries. Wearing an early CSX livery, SD45-2 8950 is working on the CSX Hanover Subdivision route.

The Electro-Motive GP40-2 is a workhorse of contemporary railroading, and the landmark diesel is available in five railroad liveries – including CSX – in the Train Simulator Classic GP40-2 Loco Pack Add-On. In a scene from CSX Scenario Pack 01, a trio of CSX GP40-2s are working on the rugged and scenic Clinchfield (a CSX predecessor route).
