Now available, the Canadian Pacific Electro-Motive SD60 is a perfect fit on a variety of Train Simulator routes!
Now available, the new Canadian Pacific Electro-Motive SD60 DLC from developer Travel by Train includes a selection of career scenarios on the popular Canadian Mountain Passes: Revelstoke-Lake Louis route – and the big, stylish 3,800-horsepower diesels is also an ideal fit for service on a wide variety of Train Simulator routes!
Electro-Motive produced the six-axle (C-C), 3,800-horsepower SD60, which utilized the 16-cylinder version of EMD’s 710G3 power plant, from 1984 through 1991, during which time eight railroads and a leasing company purchased a total of 537 standard-design SD60s.
Among the buyers of the potent SD60 was the Soo Line, which purchased 58 units in 1987-89, dressed the diesels in its red, white, and black livery, and put the SD60s to work on main lines throughout its 5,000-mile system in the American Upper Midwest. But the SD60s purchased by Soo were destined to roam well beyond the Soo Line’s route system. The Soo Line was a long-time holding of giant Canadian Pacific and by the early 2000s CP had gained full ownership of Soo Line and consolidated the railroad into the 14,700-mile CP system. Accordingly, the Soo Line’s fleet of SD60s soon changed their colors to CP’s attractive and brilliant red and white livery and could (and can) be found on CP rails throughout both the U. S. and Canada.
Like all of North America’s “Super Six” freight railroads, Canadian Pacific participates in various shared motive power and run-through arrangements with the other big railroads and thus Canadian Pacific’s SD60s can also be regularly found far from home rails, working on the likes of the UP-BNSF Tehachapi route in California, hauling oil for Norfolk Southern in West Virginia, or totting tonnage for CSX in Florida!
Created with great attention to accuracy by developer Travel by Train, the Canadian Pacific Electro-Motive SD60 for Train Simulator features realistic details, controls, and sounds. And the DLC includes three career scenarios putting put the 3-800-horsepower diesels to work on the popular, challenging, and ultra-scenic Train Simulator Canadian Mountain Passes: Revelstoke-Lake Louis route (route available separately).
Whether you wish to put the big diesel to work on CP’s home rails in British Columbia, or as a hard-working visitor on a variety of Train Simulator routes, the Canadian Pacific EMD SD60 is ready to roam – and is available now at the Steam and Dovetail Games Stores! – Gary Dolzall

Introduced by Electro-Motive in 1984 and created for Train Simulator by developer Travel by Train, the six-axle (C-C), 3,800-horsepower EMD SD60 (above and below) is now available for main line duty in striking Canadian Pacific livery.

The Soo Line purchased 58 SD60s during 1987-89 and the big diesels joined the Canadian Pacific roster when CP fully integrated the Soo Line a dozen years later. At perhaps Canadian Pacific’s signature location – the famed Spiral Tunnels of Kicking Horse Pass – CP SD60 6244 has emerged from Tunnel No. 2 (above), then moments later glides across a branch of the Kicking Horse River (below). The SD60 was a keystone of Electro-Motive’s “60 Series” locomotive line and featured EMD’s then-new 710-series power plant and a new control system managed by multiple micro-processors. Produced between 1984 and 1991, the SD60 is widely considered EMD’s initial third-generation diesel locomotive. On the Train Simulator Canadian Mountain Passes route, CP SD60 6253 and a sister stand ready for duty on a wintry night at Golden, British Columbia.

A pair of Canadian Pacific EMD SD60s are working a manifest freight through scenic Albert Canyon on the Train Simulator Canadian Mountain Passes route. Canadian Pacific SD60s can today be found handling freight assignments throughout Canada and the United States.

Wearing the vibrant red and white livery of Canadian Pacific, a trio of CP SD60s have double-stack intermodal tonnage in tow eastbound from Revelstoke, British Columbia (above and below). In addition to working on home rails, Canadian Pacific’s SD60s often can be found on other North American “Super Six” roads from California to Florida!
